The 25-year-old star has admitted he would have jumped at the chance to make history on the BBC show - but he's still looking forward to seeing how 'Strictly' stars manage the choreography in a same-sex couple.

He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "I'd have definitely been up for it.

"It's probably one of the most important things the show has done. I'm intrigued to see how the choreography works."

By contrast, AJ previously suggested some professional dancers could be reluctant to be part of a same-sex couple because of the "tradition" of ballroom.

He explained: "I know certain pro dancers would like to dance with a woman because that is what tradition is, and it kind of makes sense but it is very much down to someone's personal opinion of what ballroom and Latin dancing actually is.

"My view is, for example with ballroom and Latin, they do same-sex competitions for under 12s and there are usually more girls than boys who want to dance and so there would be all-girl partnerships.

"For me dancing isn't about the sex, it's just about two people dancing and performing together and telling the story - it doesn't matter if it's two men or two women."

The decision to include a same-sex couple on 'Strictly' followed in the footsteps of 'Dancing On Ice', which previously saw Ian 'H' Watkins team up with pro skater Matt Evers on the ITV show.
