The former 'Strictly Come Dancing' star - who is currently in Gwrych Castle for the latest series of the ITV show - admitted he had to prepare himself for a big change in diet to avoid getting "withdrawal symptoms" on the show.

Speaking on the 'AJ vs Curtis' podcast, he said: "The best way to explain this is, you know me - if I'm hungry, I get very angry.

"If I don't have my coffee, my caffeine or my energy drinks, I get even more angry. Then, I like to snack and I get more angry if I haven't snacked.

"So I thought, I've got 16 days of quarantine before it goes into the first recording day for me.

"I thought, I'm gonna remove all sugar, all caffeine, and remove all the things I know I'll probably have withdrawal symptoms from."

The 26-year-old star also revealed how he had to mentally prepare for a new sleeping pattern during his stint in the castle - which has replaced the usual Australian jungle camp, due to coronavirus travel restrictions - with filming times altered to fit the new location.

He added: "I've shifted all of my times.

"We've been told to probably go to bed at 3am and wake up at 11am because the trials will be done quite late at night, due to obviously having enough time to edit.

"A lot of the where you find out who's left will be more like 11pm, 12am - the trial won't take place until one or 2am.

"We've been told to do that, which has really helped for me. The sleep is probably the hardest thing more than food or caffeine."

AJ was in quarantine with his girlfriend Abbie Quinnen before going into the castle, and they managed to get a tasty treat delivered for his birthday on November 5th.

He said: "I have a security guard 24/7 on 12-hour shifts.

"We've got Adam outside now, making sure that if anything turns up - we just had a very important delivery of a triple chocolate cake for my birthday.

"He very kindly walked it from the gate to my front door."The full chat, alongside his brother Curtis Pritchard, can be heard on their 'AJ vs Curtis' podcast.
