The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter confirmed he does not have the virus, after suffering with one of the symptoms of it, but he won't be back in his usual seat next to Susanna Reid just yet.

He said on Twitter: "UPDATE: My COVID-19 test was negative. I was advised to take the test by my doctor after developing possible coronavirus symptoms, and was entitled to do so as a Govt-designated essential worker. I'll be back on @GMB as soon as my doctor advises I'm OK to return to work. (sic)"

On Sunday (03.05.20), Piers admitted he was set to miss the Monday edition of the breakfast show after being tested for the virus.

The television presenter and journalist shared: "UPDATE: On medical advice, and out of an abundance of caution for a mild symptom that arose in past 48hrs, I've had a test for COVID-19 and so won't be working on @GMB until I get the result back, which should be tomorrow. (sic)"

Ben Shephard stepped in to host Monday's edition of the show alongside Susanna and whilst on air, he joked that Piers missed 'Good Morning Britain' to have "a lie-in".

Speaking to Dr. Hilary Jones, Ben quipped: "As you can see, I'm not Piers. Does [Piers] just want a lie-in?"

Dr. Hilary got in on the fun as well, as he added: "I think he just wants to get his car cleaned."

When news broke of Piers' decision to get a test, his usual co-star Susanna added that everyone would be on their "best behaviour" in the controversial presenter's absence.

She said: "We send our very best wishes to you Piers, and we will be on our best behaviour while you're not here."
