The 35-year-old actress created and wrote both series of the comedy-drama show, and although she doesn't wish to make a third season, Phoebe remains keen to reunite with some of the programme's stars.

Asked whether she intends to make another series of the acclaimed show, Phoebe replied: "No. I think we have to let her go, she's exhausted. She's been through a lot.

"But we're all going to work together again, so there will be something of the 'Fleabag' spirit to come back."

Phoebe played the titular character in the award-winning show, which also featured the likes of Olivia Colman and Andrew Scott.

And while the series wasn't autobiographical, the actress thinks viewers appreciated the honesty of her character.

She shared: "It's not autobiographical, but it is really, really personal. And I think people are so relieved when they feel that something is honest and truthful.

"'Fleabag' was the moment where I thought, 'Oh, f*** it! I'm just going to write this.' I think when you have that feeling you just go off."

The London-born actress made a conscious effort to create a series that "feels really personal", but Phoebe also felt anxious about being so honest with TV viewers.

She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper's Notebook magazine: "When I first started writing the series, I was writing what I thought a television show version of 'Fleabag' should be.

"No one told me to do it like that, it was just a part of my brain that said, 'This is what people are going to want.'

"I got so angry about it and it was quite confusing, writing something that sounds and feels like something people would like.

"There is always an emptiness about that. But the moment you start writing something that feels really personal, you get a little bit nervous about it."
