Pete Bennett contacted Kate Bush in a desperate attempt to try to save Nikki Grahame.
The 39-year-old reality star has told how he penned a letter to the legendary singer/songwriter and asked her to give a "pep talk" to Nikki, who tragically passed away on Friday (09.04.21) after a long battle with anorexia.
Fighting back the tears, Pete - who had an on/off relationship with Nikki during their time in the 'Big Brother' house in 2006 - said: "I thought that maybe ... love and support would save her.
"I tried my best.
"We've always had a special bond. We went our separate ways for a few years, but that bond we shared after 'Big Brother' was special.
"I thought I would be able to lift her out of ... get her feeling good again.
"I thought she needed some good friends.
"I even wrote to Kate Bush, 'Hey, Kate Bush. Do you fancy giving Nikki Grahame a pep talk? Send her a video message?' Because she was a massive [fan]."
Pete admitted he was "shocked" when he saw how thin Nikki was recently, and recalled her contacting him in the last lockdown to ask him to "rescue her" from hospital.
He said: "I knew she was ill, I'd seen pictures of her out with Imogen [Thomas] and I knew she was looking thin.
"She contacted me in the last lockdown saying she'd been hospitalised again and she told me not to say anything, but she wanted me to come and rescue her or something.
"I was filming up north at the time and I couldn't come and see her.
"She got out again, we were still in contact … but recently when I saw the GoFundMe, it was a shock.
"When I saw her recently it was a complete difference, it was quite a shock."
What's more, Pete was able to spend a final night with Nikki, and he remembers it being "one of the most special nights" he ever had with his ex.
Speaking on 'Good Morning Britain', he added: "When we saw each other again that night, when I went over there, it was magic - she came out of her shell.
"She was reminiscing about 'Big Brother', she wasn't well obviously but she was still there. It was one of the most special nights I ever had with Nikki.
"A lovely bond and experience to see each other again, the fondest memory I've got of her now."
