Tony Award winner and Emmy nominee Patti LuPone has signed on as a guest star for the second season of Sky Atlantic and Showtime drama Penny Dreadful, taking on the role of a mysterious character of great importance from Vanessa's (Eva Green) past.
Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale have both been upped to series regulars, with McCrory returning as Evelyn Poole - AKA Madame Kali - and Beale as eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle.
Further guest stars include Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge as Bartholomew Rusk - a Scotland Yard investigator who's looking into the gruesome London murders, Sarah Green as Poole's powerful daughter Hecate, and Jonny Beauchamp as a young man with a singular past.
The intense psychological thriller is created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, alongside Oscar winner Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris of Neal Street Productions.
Production on the second season of Penny Dreadful begins this month in Dublin, Ireland, with the series to broadcast on Sky Atlantic HD in the beginning of 2015.
