The actress - who played companion Bill Potts in 'Doctor Who' - is lined up for the upcoming BBC Radio 2 comedy as part of the station's 'Funny Fortnight' from April 23.

The proposal-gone-wrong sitcom will follow Pearl and Joe as couple Lucy and Jamie, as the latter prepares to pop the question.

However, a series of disasters as he works up the nerve to ask for her parents' permission leaves their relationship hanging on.

The programme will see the talented pair joined in the cast by Adjoa Andoh, Brett Goldstein, Alice Orr-Ewing, Colin Salmon, and Sophie Wu.

'Proposal' was written by Ben Ashenden and Alex Owen, who will also appear in the sitcom themselves as Jamie's meddlesome friends.

BBC Radio 2's 'Funny Fortnight' will also see Jeremy Vine serving as Agony Uncle for famous studio guests - played by impressionists - and Paul Coleman ('Car Care') has penned new comedy 'Dog Days'.

The 'Comedy Showcase' is part of the station's initiative to partner with TV and develop new formats.

Other programme's set for the run include 'Le Maire', 'Censored', 'Josh Widdicombe Will Make Your Life Better', 'Am I Weird?', 'One Night Only', 'Celebrity Lip Service' and 'The World According to Harry Priest'.

BBC Radio 2's 'Funny Fortnight - Comedy Showcase' begins on April 23.
