The final season of hit British series Peaky Blinders may yet be still to debut, but creator Steven Knight has seemingly confirmed that both Arthur and Tommy Shelby - played by Paul Anderson and Cillian Murphy respectively - will be returning for the planned spinoff movie.

Chatting with Digital Spy ahead of the release of Season 6, Knight was asked if Tommy and Arthur would still be a part of that project, to which he replied: "It's impossible to say yet. But the film - yes."

Adding further context to what we should expect from the movie, he continued: "We're going to make a film – a feature film – which will move the world on, and then once we've moved the world on into the Second World, we'll see where that takes us.

"It's now a situation where the world… you know, around the world, the Peaky world, it's got so much energy, and so much following, and such a huge fanbase, that you think: 'Well, let's just carry on.' So we do."

As for fleshing out the film's cast, Knight said that there are "so many people, so many great actors" that are already having conversations about potentially coming on board, but reflected that "breaking new talent" would still be a priority.

"Because it's all out there, and there is a sort of consistency," he explained, "what we're doing is finding really good actors from a working-class sort of background, and telling that story. That's what we're trying to do."

Last year, it was revealed that the Peaky Blinders film wouldn't be filming until 2023 at the earliest, so we shouldn't really expect it to hit the big screen until late 2023 or at some point in 2024. Whether or not that production timeline is something that remains in place is something we'll just have to wait and see.

Exactly who else will be tied to the project alongside creator Knight and stars Anderson and Murphy, is anybody's guess. The upcoming season will feature new faces including Amber Anderson, Conrad Khan and James Frecheville and so, if they're to survive their debut batch of episodes, they could all appear.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 will premiere on Sunday, February 27th at 9pm on BBC One, and will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
