Paul O'Grady is considering getting some pet alpacas

The TV star has fallen in love with the animals - a species of camelid mammal from South American - since filming a show at an alpaca farm in Kent and he now wants to get some for his Aldington home.

Speaking to Yours magazine, he said: "I’m tempted to get a couple of alpacas. I’ve got a barn and everything. Last year we did a series about Kent and I filmed on an alpaca farm. There was a mum and a baby who followed me everywhere and I loved it. Alpacas are like something Walt Disney drew! They really are. They’re like part llama, part camel, part something else! They’re so funny. They’re just lovely creatures.”

Paul is well known for being a canine lover and he presents ITV reality series 'For The Love Of Dogs', which is set at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Although he has a huge soft spot for pooches, they don't always reciprocate his feelings.

A few months ago, the 66-year-old comedian was punched in the face by a Great Dane puppy whilst he was taking a walk in his local park.

He previously said: "There was a Great Dane puppy, nearly seven-foot standing on his hind paws, and he came straight into the park, took one look at me, and punched me straight in the mouth. Not patting me with his paw. Full blown bang, like David Haye, straight in the gob!"

Paul - who rose to prominence as Lily Savage in the 1980s - received zero sympathy from onlookers.

He added: “If it was anybody else on telly, they’d all be saying ‘Are you alright? Would you like anything?’ Not me.”

The former teatime chat show host famously featured his canine companions on his programme - most notably his four-legged friend Buster, who made regular appearances on 'The Paul O'Grady' show until the mutt's death in 2009.
