Paul O'Grady couldn't bear to watch 'Coronation Street' for 12 months after the musical based on the show flopped.

The 58-year-old star was the narrator of 'Street of Dreams', which was axed last year after just two performances, and admits it left him hating everything about the ITV soap for 12 months right down to the theme tune.

When asked if he is a big fan of the show, he said: "I was, and then they did an awful musical and that put me off for the year.

"I couldn't even listen to the theme tune, but about six months ago I started getting back into it."

The 'For the Love of Dogs' presenter enjoys the soap again now, even though he gets emotional watching the show when cancer-sufferer Hayley Cropper - who is played by Julie Hesmondhalgh - is on screen.

Quizzed on what brings a tear to his eye, he told Radio Times magazine: "More recently, it's the Hayley storyline in 'Coronation Street'. Roy and Hayley are such good people, which is why the public cares."
