Paul O'Grady had an "animal hospital" in his mother's airing cupboard.
The 'For the Love of Dogs' presenter had an obsession with animals from a young age and used to surprise his mum by bringing back injured species that he'd found on the streets and hide them away until they were nursed back to health.
He said: "I've always loved animals. As a boy growing up in Birkenhead, I had ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, rats and gold fish.
"I was always bringing poorly animals into the house and my mother used to get a shock when she opened the airing cupboard - my animal hospital - to find them."
The 57-year-old presenter admits his house now looks like "a scene from 'Snow White'" because he has so many creatures living there.
He added to HELLO! magazine: "I have other animals, too - cats, pigs, goats, chickens, owls and sheep. With robins nesting in the office and blue tits on the toaster, it looks like a scene from 'Snow White' in my house."
