Despite the reports that the new members of the Great British Bake Off team are at war with each other, series loyalist Paul Hollywood has spoken out and said the focus of the show should be on the bakers.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “The presents are on for about five minutes and the bakers are on there for 50 minutes, so they are the stars of the show.
“The characters on this year’s show are the strongest we have had and the standard is 10 times higher. People get wrapped up in all this ‘host and judges’ thing too much. They forget that it’s all about the bakers.”
He did however go on to give his first impressions of new hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding, saying: “I had tears rolling down my face because of how funny Noel and Sandi are.”
So, despite the loss of Mel and Sue, as well as judge Mary Berry, we can still expect Great British Bake Off to bring the laughs when it premieres on its new home of Channel 4 later this year.
