Paul Gascoigne has been forced to quit the Italian version of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' due to a persistent shoulder injury.
The 53-year-old former England footballer hurt himself during a trial on the show - which is called 'L'Isola dei Famosi' - last month and required hospital treatment. He later returned to the show but has now quit for good.
During his final days on the show, Paul was seen wearing a sling and told host Ilary Blasi that he was "so, so" when she asked about his health.
The sporting legend – who is well-known in Italy after playing for Rome club Lazio during his career – was said to be facing "mental challenges" after his injury prevented him from doing a number of tasks.
Paul said: "It hurts when I hear people say things like this, especially as when we arrived we were all friends and now people are against each other.
"I had 30,000 angry people every weekend saying, 'You fat b******.' So you think two or three people moaning about me behind my back is going to hurt me? No, I'm just going to laugh."
It was previously revealed that Paul had been taking intensive Italian lessons ahead of his appearance on 'L’Isola Dei Famosi' - 'The Island of the Famous'.
An insider said: "Paul has a basic grasp of Italian and he can make himself understood. But what we really want to avoid is having subtitles too often as that would ruin it. The idea is to get him up to a good conversational level so he can talk with the other competitors.
"We are expecting some exciting TV from Paul ... The women on the island are all very attractive and range in ages from 22 to 53 - the same age as Paul - and most of them are single. It should make a fascinating watch to see how Paul interacts with these women who are very opinionated and have strong views."
