Patrick Murray wants to do an Only Fools revival
The 66-year-old actor starred as Mickey Pearce alongside Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst in the classic sitcom from 1983 until 2003 and despite the death of series creator John Sullivan, is confident his co-stars would also be willing to take part in a revival if the "quality" of the writing was still there.
He said: "I’d love it. Getting together again and with all the cast and seeing how all the characters have developed. Mickey will probably have a little Mickey running around. If the quality of the script was there, I imagine the others would be up for it too. John Sullivan was such a great writer, but his son Jim is really good and I’m sure he could achieve it."
Meanwhile, the comedy star - who has seven-year-old daughter Josie with wife Anong - was diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2021 and despite being declared cancer-free in May last year, had to undergo a life-saving operation last week to remove half his liver and a newly-discovered tumour but will be "eternally grateful" to his surgeon., who had also worked with late footballing legend George Best.
He told The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column: "I had the same surgeon as George Best, Professor Nigel Heaton, and he was delighted with the outcome as the tumour wasn’t in a good place. So I’m eternally grateful to him. Amazingly, the liver will grow back in four weeks — I couldn’t believe it when he told me!"
