The TV host, 50, apparently may land the spot after impressing bosses and listeners while covering 35-year-old Rylan Clark's Saturday afternoon show on the station.
A source told The Sun: “Paddy is a natural fit for Helen’s vision of Radio 2, and is an effortless broadcaster.
“He’s proven a hit with listeners since filling in for Rylan, and was brought in for talks about the future.
“Like fellow Bolton-born host Vernon Kay, Paddy’s Northern tones — and cheesy dad jokes — work well on air, and he has come up with some brilliant, innovative ideas for formats of his own.”
'Take Me Out' host Paddy previously filled in for Vernon Kay on Radio 2 while the Bolton-born presenter, 49, was doing an ultra-marathon for 'Children In Need' in November 2023.
Meanwhile, Paddy has admitted he has not spoken to his 'Top Gear' co-star Freddie Flintoff, 46, in more than 10 months after the former cricket star suffered a horrific crash during a shoot for the show.
He told The Sun: “We were all there for him when it happened, and he got back to us all immediately after, but it’s gone quiet since then.
“Who knows what he must be going through. I still see his wife and we still chat, and we have the same barber, and it’s all lovely.
“I messaged Fred recently saying, ‘Look, I can’t begin to think what you’re going through but rather than me bombarding you with loads of messages, which can be annoying, if you can’t be (bothered) with that, I’m always here.
“I hope you’re well and please God, I’ll see you soon’.
"You just can’t begin to put yourself into his shoes. No one can know what’s going on in his head.”
