In its first BBC One drama commission, Big Talk is to bring to screens the inspiring real life story of the Mottershead family, who established Chester Zoo in the 1930s.
George Mottershead is to be played by Lee Ingleby - an ex-serviceman with the hopes to build Britain's first ever zoo without bars.
Liz White is to step into the role of George's loyal wife Lizzie Mottorshead, and the two have children Mew and June, portrayed by Amelia Clarkson and Honor Kneafsey.
George's father Albert (Peter Wight) turns his wife Lucy's (Anne Reid) world upside down when he sells their shop in a bid to help his son and the plans for the zoo, forcing them both to live in the country with their family.
Ralph Little will also star as Billy Atkinson - mischievous brother to Lizzie - and Sophia Myles will play Lady Katherine, a mysterious aristocrat who lives next door.
Stephen Campbell-Moore features as Reverend Aaron Webb.
The show has been written by award-winning playwright Matt Charman, and is to be produced by Marcus Wilson and executive produced by Luke Alkin, Kenton Allen and Matthew Justice for Big Talk Productions, as well as Adam Kemp for Aenon.
Andy De Emmony takes the lead director position.
