'Open All Hours' won't be returning for a full new series following the Christmas special last year.
Some 9.5 million viewers tuned in to 'Still Open All Hours', which saw Sir David Jason reprise his role as shopkeeper Granville, over the festive period but the BBC has reportedly decided not to commission a full series based on its success.
A BBC insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Impressive ratings are only part of the recipe for success. The fact that the organisation have been slow off the mark to commission a new series and get contracts tied down is a telling sign."
Sir David, 73, had previously expressed interest in making another series of the sitcom, which originally aired between 1973 and 1985.
He said of the Christmas special: "If the people wanted it, I'm sure even the BBC would want to serve the audience."
The veteran actor returned to his role as Granville in 'Still Open All Hours' and was seen running the famous Arkwright's corner shop, with his son Leroy - played by James Baxter - as his assistant.
The original series starred Ronnie Barker, who sadly passed away in 2005, as shop-owner Albert Arkwright and Granville as his assistant.
The BBC was recently criticised by the stars of another past sitcom, 'Birds of a Feather', who claim the corporation refused to produce a new series of the show, instead offering a Christmas special.
The show has since moved to ITV for a new run of eight episodes and is enjoying ratings success after a 15-year absence.
