'Open All Hours' will return as a whole new series.

Sir David Jason will reprise his role as Granville after bosses were impressed with the one-off Christmas special, 'Still Open All Hours', and although producer Gareth Edwards has remained tight-lipped about details of the plot, he revealed that expectations of fans old and new should be met.

Gareth told The Sun newspaper: "I can't say too much about the plot, but it does involve anchovy paste - that's all I'm saying!"

Fans gathered to watch David and other cast members including Lynda Baron, who plays nurse Gladys Emmanuel, Stephanie Cole as the Black Widow and Maggie Ollerenshaw, who stars as Granville's former flame Mavis, shoot scenes which wrapped up in Doncaster, North England, last week.

The Christmas special was the result of an "innocent" remark in a meeting when David wondered what happened to his character.

The actor previously explained: "It all came about from a very innocent meeting with the BBC's Head of Comedy.

"I just happened to say, 'Whatever happened to Granville?' and it snowballed from there.

"It genuinely was a question that's always been on my mind. I always thought that if Granville came back, he should have Arkwright's stutter because I do a very good impersonation of Ronnie."

The original series ran between 1973 and 1985.
