Disney+ is, despite its short life so far, one of the most popular streaming services in the world, housing Marvel movies and TV shows, Star Wars content, and much of their own Original releases as well.
Last year (2021), in August, Only Murders in the Building debuted on Disney+ (under the Star banner), and became a success. It mixed comedy with crime, and has the perfect leading trio.
The cast includes Steve Martin (Father of the Bride) as the sensible Charles, Martin Short (The Morning Show) as eccentric Oliver, and Selena Gomez (The Dead Don’t Die) as headstrong and mysterious Mabel.
The first season of the show saw Mabel meet Charles and Oliver, who both adore a certain podcast focused on true crime. After their building is evacuated, the three cross paths and make firm friends as they discuss their favourite podcast.
However, when a death occurs in their very own building, the trio suspects murder, and takes it upon themselves to find out who did it, using their self-proclaimed expert knowledge of true crime.
It isn’t all fun and games, however, as their investigation (which they discuss on their very own podcast), becomes a bit more public than they’d like, getting them into trouble.

Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building picks up after the shocking death of their building’s Board President, Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell). Mabel, Charles and Oliver race to find her killer, however, the trio have been publicly implicated in her murder.
They are now the focus of a competing podcast, and must now deal with the fact that their New Yorker neighbours believe they have committed murder.
Only Murders in the Building will return exclusively on Disney+ with its second season, on June 28th, 2022.
Being a lover of both crime and comedy, I absolutely loved Season 1 of Only Murders in the Building, and I’m so excited for the show’s next season to finally have a release date.
Gomez, Martin and Short make a brilliant threesome, as the combination of young, older, obnoxious and calm all mix together to create a chaotic yet intelligent group.
I can’t wait for the next season, as the first one ended on quite the cliff-hanger...
