Olly Alexander has played down speculation that he is set to be the next 'Doctor Who'.
The 'It's A Sin' star is considered as one of the favourites to take over from the departing Jodie Whittaker as the fourteenth incarnation of the Time Lord but suggested that he wouldn't be playing the character when quizzed on the Capital Breakfast show.
Olly was chatting with hosts Roman Kemp, Sonny Jay and Sian Welby when he was played a clip of former doctor Peter Capaldi advocating him for the role.
The actor said in the audio clip: “Well I think it’s great, I would say bring some of his pop costumes that would be good to have Doctor Who dressed like, because he dresses very cool."
Sonny then asked: "Are you going to be playing Doctor Who?"
The Years & Years singer responded: "No."
Olly was also backed to play the Time Lord by Roman, who claimed that he would be "fantastic" for the part.
He told the star: "Can I just say I think you’d be fantastic.
"And if they are listening, I’m sure they are, they couldn’t pick anyone better."
Olly replied: "Oh that’s very sweet."
It was reported earlier this year that Olly was set to become the new Doctor after Russell T Davies - the former 'Doctor Who' show runner who worked with the star on 'It's A Sin' - championed him for the part on the long-running BBC sci-fi series.
An insider said: "Olly is on the verge of being announced as the new Doctor. Negotiations are at an advanced stage.
“He’s been heavily promoted for the role by Russell — who he’s worked closely with on other projects. Russell was impressed with his work and felt he was a great fit for the Doctor."
