The 24-year-old star - who is on the shortlist in the Lead ACtor in a Limited Series category - has admitted he was disappointed to see his cast mate miss out on a chance to win the equivalent prize.

He told Vulture: "If it was me I would have given her all the love in that category. I can't speak highly enough of the work she did on the show.

"I know there are extraordinary actresses nominated in that category, but I think Daisy's work is just phenomenal in this."

Meanwhile, he revealed Daisy was "just so excited" for the show's nominees, with the hit BBC drama listed in four categories including directing, writing and casting.

He added to Deadline: "I'm the biggest fan of her as an actor.

"I just would not for a second have have been able to do anything that I did without her. It wouldn't have happened."

Director Lenny Abrahamson previously revealed he is open to a second series of the adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel - which stars Paul and Daisy as Connell and Marianne - but not for another five years.

He recently explained: "We've talked about the possibility of how interesting it would be to check back in with them, but apart from just general musings and over a drink, no, there have been no concrete discussions about what it would be like.

"As Sally says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right.

"But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I'd love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are."
