Nicola Coughlan says working with Ncuti Gatwa on 'Doctor Who' was "an absolute joy".
The 'Derry Girls' and 'Bridgerton' actress is heading into the TARDIS after joining the cast of the BBC's beloved sci-fi series in an "exciting undisclosed role", and she's been delighted to work with both showrunner Russell T Davies and the Fifteenth Doctor.
She said in a statement: "I’m excited to join the Whoniverse under the leadership of the inimitable Russell T Davies.
"I’ve been a fan of Ncuti Gatwa for some time and getting to share the screen with him as the Doctor has been an absolute joy."
Her first in character photo has been revealed as she sported a red beret and matching coat and gazes towards the camera.
Russell revealed she brought "joy" to the set during their time working together.
He added: "This has been the most brilliant shoot, with Nicola lighting up the set and bringing joy.
"From Derry, via Bridgerton, to the TARDIS, it’s the trip of a lifetime.”
Russell had previously revealed Nicola was lined up for next year's Christmas special, with plenty to come before her first appearance.
This month, 'Doctor Who' returns with three special episodes as David Tennant is back to play the Fourteenth Doctor alongside Catherine Tate as Donna Noble.
From there, Russell is set to introduce Ncuti as the Fifteenth Doctor, and he will be sticking around once the 'Sex Education' star's adventures begin.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Russell revealed his plans for the future of the show.
He said: "I'm planning season 3 now, there’s plans for season 4. "Absolutely. Who knows? Who knows. I'm not getting any younger."
