Nicola Coughlan has been cast in new comedy ‘Big Mood’.
The ‘Bridgerton’ actress will join ‘It’s A Sin’ star Lydia West, 29, in the Channel 4 six-part series written and created by Camilla Whitehill - which will be directed by Rebecca Asher (‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’), and Nicola's own friendship with Camilla has influenced the script.
The 36-year-old actress told Variety magazine: “We met like a million years ago at drama school in Oxford. She was training to be an actor. And then when we left drama school, we were both in various states of not working and everything being a bit crap.
"And she was like, ‘I’m not gonna be an actor, I want to write.’ I went to see her first short play night and she was just – she’s always been insanely funny.
"But then, when I saw it, I was like, 'Oh, she’s gonna be a famous writer'. But our 20s were like the struggle bus. And then the fact now the show is happening… I’ve always wanted to work with her. And then for Lydia to be part of it is the biggest dream.”
The show is tipped as “a vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness".
It follows two pals Maggie and Eddie - played by Nicola and Lydia respectively - who spent their 20s in a somewhat co-dependent friendship but heading towards their 30s they share the same worries for mental health and potentially outgrowing friendships.
The ex 'Derry Girls' star recently revealed her 'Bridgerton' character Penelope Featherington will "finally becomes a woman in season three and comes into herself" as Nicola gears up to take the spotlight alongside her on-screen love interest, Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton.
