A new feature-length documentary on disgraced pop star Gary Glitter that uncovers his double life is coming to ITV.
'Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile' – produced by Minnow Films – will examine how the glam rocker used his larger than life onstage persona to cover up his predatory offstage behaviour and attract young female fans who was able to abuse.
According to Broadcast magazine, the doc is being directed by Erica Gornall and is expected to air this Spring on ITV1 and ITVX.
The 79-year-old singer - whose real name is Paul Gadd – had been released from prison in February after serving eight years of a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing three schoolgirls, but he was sent back to jail after a breach of his licence conditions.
The 'I’m the Leader of the Gang' singer - who sold 18 million records and had three number ones - was first jailed in 1999 over child sex abuse pictures after taking his computer to PC World for repairs. He moved abroad but in 2002 was expelled from Cambodia amid child sex allegations. And in 2006 he was jailed in Vietnam for abusing two girls, aged 10 and 11.
Before his public fall from grace in 1997, Glitter had been one the country’s most beloved pop stars but since his unmasking as an abuser of young girls radio stations across the country have snubbed his songs.
Netflix and Amazon are also releasing documentaries on Glitter.
The Netflix doc will examine journalists’ hunt for Glitter, with the working title Hunting Gary Glitter.
