Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany will be returning to Netflix it’s been revealed, as the streaming service announced today they had recommissioned critically-acclaimed original series Mindhunter for a second season.
Also starring the likes of Hannah Gross and newcomer Cameron Britton, who took on the role of serial killer Ed Kemper in the series, the show has made huge waves following its October premiere, with creator Joe Penhall praised for his unique approach to a crime procedural series.
Based on the true crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker, the show sees David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Charlize Theron and Cean Chaffin all serve as executive producers.
It's been speculated that serial killer Monte Rissell (played by Sam Strike in season 1, episode 4) will be making a return for the second season, after the discovery of Strike’s name under the second season’s IMDb page. Of course, this could simply have been a major mistake, but it would certainly be interesting to see the murderer back on the show.
To-date, Mindhunter has earned a Certified Fresh rating of 96% on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, instantly becoming one of the best-received original series in Netflix’s history.
Netflix have also pointed out that 13 of the 18 original scripted series they debuted this year will be making a comeback, proving their high success rate when it comes to picking out shows that will truly make a mark with the viewing public.
We’ll bring you more news on the now-confirmed second season of Mindhunter as and when we get it. The entire first season is available to watch now for all Netflix subscribers.
