Ncuti Gatwa got told off for swearing in his 'Doctor Who' costume.
The 31-year-old actor takes full control of the TARDIS from the Christmas Day special 'The Church on Ruby Road', and his first full season as the Fifteenth Doctor airs in 2024.
Ncuti has revealed that he was called into showrunner Russell T. Davies' office after using foul language whilst dressed as the Time Lord.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, he said: "The only time I’ve ever gotten in trouble for anything was when I swore while wearing a 'Doctor Who' costume.
“I got called into Russell’s office. Woo! And he let me know that that’s not acceptable. He said, ‘Do what you want when you’re out of costume, but when you’re in costume, do not let us catch you swearing.'"
Despite having to remind Ncuti about his responsibilities to the BBC sci-fi show's younger fans, Russell emphasised that both he and newcomer Millie Gibson - who plays new companion Ruby, a girl who was abandoned at a church on Christmas Eve - are "incredible performers" who have a special chemistry.
Speaking to SFX magazine, screenwriter Russell said: "They’re both completely incredible performers, they just have a brilliant charisma.
“There’s a real spark, a real crackle of energy between the two of them when they’re performing, it’s electric.”
As well as praising the two new lead stars, Russell, 60, teased what fans can expect in the upcoming Christmas special, which follows the trio of 60th anniversary specials which saw David Tennant return as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble.
The 'It's a Sin' creator said: "It's completely a reinvention. Reinvention of the show, brand new, but not a reboot, it's the same old show, everything starts again, everything's seen through the eyes of Ruby Sunday and it's that lovely feeling of here we go, a new era beginning.
"It [the episode] kind of goes into territory we've never touched before."
