Though Pablo Escabar’s story looks to be over, Narcos is making a return this September with a whole new story, as the Cali Cartel become public enemy number one and enjoy life under the guise of the Gentlemen of Cali. It’s those gentlemen that we’ll follow in Narcos season 3, and you can now check out the first official trailer for the season below:

With Escobar dead, the DEA turn their attention to the richest drug trafficking organisation in the world. Led by four powerful godfathers, the authorities are given perhaps their biggest task ever. Though they have experience on their side, this cartel operates hugely differently to Escobar’s, preferring to bribe government officials to keep their violence out of the headlines. Never heard of the Cali Cartel? That’ll be the reason why.

Damian Alcazar takes on the role of Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela, the leader of the Cali Cartel, also known as the “boss of bosses”. Francisco Denis is Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela, the brains behind the operation and Gilberto’s brother. Alberto Ammann is Pacho Herrera, the group’s hitman who runs the Mexican connection and international distribution. Fourth godfather is Pepe Rapazote’s Chepe Santacruz Londono, who runs the satellite New York City empire of the Colombian drug network.

With Gilberto hoping to leave the business with a bold new plan, Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) seeks help from both US and Colombian law enforcement to take the Cali Cartel down.

Matias Varela also stars as Jorge Salcedo, the head of security for Cali who prioritises the safety of his family over his bosses. Fighting on the DEA’s side are Chris Feistl and Daniel Van Ness, played by Michael Stahl-David and Matt Whelan respectively. Though they’re enthusiastic about the cause, their inexperience could let them down.

Sense8 actor Miguel Angel Silvestre joins the series this season as Franklin Jurado, the cartel’s money launderer who puts his wife Christina (Kerry Bishe) in mortal danger without really knowing it.

Then there’s Miguel’s son, David Rodriguez, played by Arturo Castro. Though he’s at first reluctant to take a leading role in the structure of the cartel, he plays a big part in the overriding story this season.

With all of the rules changed, just how different will Narcos be when it makes its return on Netflix? Season 3 debuts on September 1.
