The 53-year-old comedian has been performing as his Pub Landlord alter ego since 1994, and would like nothing more than speaking to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, primarily to find out if they have a sense of humour which he suspects "they don't".

In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: "I think Harry and Meghan would be the ideal people for the Pub Landlord to interview right now.

"It'd be good to find out whether they have a sense of humour because I suspect they don't.

Murray recently saw stage show 'The Windsors: Endgame', starring Harry Enfield, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Kara Tointon, based on Channel 4 comedy 'The Windsors', and he says they imagined someone from Buckingham Palace would have been tasked with watching it and reporting back.

He added: "I went to see 'The Windsors' at the theatre and it's so funny and rude.

"One of the things we talked about in the interval was picturing someone from Buckingham Palace being sent to watch it and having to report back!"

And having interviewed a host of high profile stars, including singer Phil Collins and Spice Girl Mel B, during his almost three decades playing The Pub Landlord, Al's favourite person to meet was "extremely cool" astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

He said: "The most amazing person to have spoken to is Buzz Aldrin.

"Shaking hands with that guy is the maddest thing. He went to the moon! It's ridiculous.

"He was an extremely cool dude for someone who'd been to the moon because I think if you've been to the moon you can probably behave in any way you want and people will put up with it."
