The 'This Morning' team "completely understands" why Holly Willoughby quit the show.
The 42-year-old star recently announced that she was walking away from the day-time programme after 14 years, and the cast and crew can understand her decision.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Cast and crew have all had a tough year but are beyond professional, and so the overriding feeling, despite the sadness, is the show must go on.
"Everyone completely understands why Holly has quit.
"There is no denying it’s been a tough year for her too.
"But the events of the last week will no doubt have pushed her over the edge to make such a tough decision."
Holly announced her resignation earlier this week.
The presenter said on Instagram: "I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to 'This Morning'.
"To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you."
Meanwhile, it's also been claimed that the behind-the-scenes team at 'This Morning' wanted Holly to receive a "big send-off".
A source told OK!: "The staff really didn’t see Holly's exit coming.
"It’s such a huge shame she didn’t get the big send-off she deserved after 14 years on the sofa, but I’m sure they will all celebrate her time on the show privately."
