Mikey North is aware that his character on 'Coronation Street' could be killed off at "any point."
The 35-year-old actor has starred as bad boy builder Gary Windass on the ITV soap since 2008 and has enjoyed discovering a "softer side" to his character but is aware that he could "go" at any point from the soap.
He said: "I'm glad this softer side of Gary is starting to pop up more and more now. Hopefully, they are starting to you know, round him off as a character and he's grown up a lot in the last few years.
I've really enjoyed getting to play that side but obviously still with the knowledge that he could go at any point, but hopefully he's becoming more of a nicer rounded character. I hope so anyway.
Gary - who has been married to long-running character Maria Connor since 2020 - is set to become involved in a rooftop showdown with Kelly Neelan after she discovers that he killed her father and Mikey went on to explain that although his alter ego doesn't "intend" to do wrong, something always seems to "crop up."
He told The Mirror: "It's more about trying to redeem Gary for what he's done and like I say, hopefully, deep down he doesn't intend to do wrong.
"He is a good, kind family man deep down, but he does have that temper, but I just hope that we can find a way to redeem him. Hopefully this block of episodes can go a long way to doing that.
"There is a very protective side of him. He wants to look after his family and I always say that everything that he's done, has mainly been with his family in mind and trying to do the right thing.
"I think things often go back to normal and then you know, something else seems to crop up. Let's see. Let's see what's next if this isn't the end."
'Coronation Street' airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
