The Rolling Stones frontman couldn't resist a cheeky quip about the 'Corrie' murderer - who was knifed to death in a dramatic conclusion to his reign of terror last week - during the band's Old Trafford gig in the city.

He told the crowd: "We went to the Northern Quarter. We went down the Curry Mile and I think I saw Pat Phelan. He was eating some papadums!"

As well as going down well with the 50,000 attendees, Mick's quip was well received by Connor McIntyre, who played the soap villain.

In response to a tweet from a gig-goer who mentioned that Mick had spoken about Connor, he wrote on Twitter: "That'll do nicely Mick ....

Connor bowed out of the soap in a blaze of glory last week when he was stabbed by Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) after shooting his daughter Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorp), and he spoilt Michelle Connor's (Kym Marsh) wedding day by taking her hostage before blasting her, too.

The former 'Murder City' star recently admitted he is pleased 'Corrie' decided to "push the boundaries" for his exit storyline.

He told BANG Showbiz: "The scripts have been great, the story, we've really taken it as close as we can get. Some of it has been as good as any drama we've seen on television, in my opinion.

"Set against Aidan's story, set against Bethany's story - it's just fantastic, isn't it?"
