Michelle Collins has said her daughter isn't allowed to take part in the world of showbusiness.

The former 'Coronation Street' star - who played Stella Price from June 2011 until April 2014 - admits she'd have never become an actress if she'd known what the business was really like, and she's now warned her 17-year-old daughter Maia to stay away from the competitive industry.

She told The Sun newspaper: "In this business there's so many people who are deeply unhappy with themselves."

The 51-year-old beauty recently admitted she found life as a soap star difficult from the start and she even tried to kill herself after quitting 'EastEnders' in 1998 and splitting from her partner Fabrizio Tassalini shortly afterwards.

She said earlier this month: "I felt like I'd been tipped over the edge. I felt like a failure and found myself sinking lower and lower as the days went on, until in the end I couldn't seem to pull myself out of the hole.

"I remember swallowing some pills. There was no definite plan or explicit decision behind my actions. It just happened."

However, despite quitting 'Coronation Street' due to suffering with extreme tiredness, Michelle will be back on screens in mid-July after agreeing to join 'Casualty' as the love interest of paramedic Jeff Collier (Matt Bardock).

She said: "I'm going into 'Casualty' as a key character's love interest. It is only for a few weeks, which is perfect."
