Michael Ball is an "obsessive" 'Great British Bake Off' fan.

Michael Ball admits he is a 'Great British Bake Off' "obsessive" and jumped at the opportunity to appear on charity spin-off show 'The Great Sport Relief Bake Off'.

The actor-and-singer will be seen in a new charity spin-off show, 'The Great Sport Relief Bake Off', next week and he says he jumped at the opportunity to take part because he's such an admirer of the BBC Two series.

He enthused: "I'm an obsessive. I get asked to do a lot of reality shows and I've never wanted to do them - except this one. When the call came through, I bit their hands off."

Michael, 51, has watched 'Bake Off' since it launched in 2010 and credits the show with inspiring him to get into the kitchen.

He said: "It was discovering 'Bake Off' that inspired me to have a go. I made my first [Victoria] sponge two years ago. That collapsed. Then I tried a lemon drizzle ... that collapsed, too. I wasn't put off. Now I defy anybody to beat me at a Vicky sponge."

While Michael has some baking experience, he admits the pressure of 'Bake Off' got to him and judge Mary Berry was even convinced he was going to kill himself.

He told the Radio Times magazine: "I had a metal skewer wrested out of my hand by Mary Berry because she thought I was going to kill myself. I was trying to add food dye while the blade was going round in the mixer.

"Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Everything."
