Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, "formally filed a complaint" to ITV about Piers Morgan following some of his comments about her tell-all interview.
ITV News royal editor Chris Ship has claimed the duchess contacted the channel to "raise concerns about how Piers Morgan's words affect the issue of mental health and what it might do to others contemplating suicide", after the TV presenter said on 'Good Morning Britain' on Monday (08.03.21) that he "didn’t believe a word" of what she told Oprah Winfrey on Sunday evening (07.03.21).
In the interview, Meghan had told how she "didn’t want to be alive" after receiving heavy public scrutiny.
Chris wrote on Twitter: "So ... the Duchess of Sussex formally filed a complaint to @ITV on Monday.
"It’s thought to have been sent to the broadcaster’s CEO.
"Meghan raised concerns about how @piersmorgan’s words affect the issue of mental health and what it might do to others contemplating suicide (sic)"
Earlier today (10.03.21), Piers - who quit 'GMB' last night (09.03.21) following his controversial comments - claimed Meghan is "contemptible" for the "damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen".
He told Sky News: "I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to have an opinion.
"If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that's entirely their right.
"I don't believe almost anything that's come out of her mouth.
"And I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.
"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."
Piers also clashed with 'GMB' weather presenter Alex Beresford on yesterday's 'GMB' show over his Meghan comments, resulting in Piers storming out of the studio for a breather.
ITV confirmed last night that Piers had decided to depart 'GMB'.
They said in a statement: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave 'Good Morning Britain'.
"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
Ofcom received more than 41,000 complaints about his comments toward the duchess.
