The 24-year-old star's alter-ego Ben Mitchell hatched a plan to set up Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) on last night's (01.08.19) episode, pretending to the police that the mechanic battered his dad Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) when it was actually Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner).

He told Mirror Online: "Well he's opportunistic, isn't he? He's found the perfect opportunity to get one over on Keanu and try to remove him from the picture, which is a massive conflict of interest because it then leaves Phil not having as much time as he needs or necessarily should.

"But I think he's so broken by what's happened in the previous episodes, finding out that Keanu's in the will and he's not, that I think his mind goes into a complete overdrive."

Ben was left in a furious rage after discovering Phil has removed him from his will, in favour of Keanu.

He was heading to the garage with a gun to confront Phil, but upon his arrival he found Stacey had just whacked his dad unconscious with a wrench, so used the opportunity to frame Keanu.

Max said: "It's definitely calculated. It's calm and it's collected and I think he's been wanting to find an opportunity to remove Keanu from said situation for a while."

The actor teased that the next few weeks will be terrifying for many characters.

Speaking about Ben, Max added: "He's fragile, he's vulnerable. We've just had Paul's (Jonny Labey) anniversary and now we're into the fact that his dad's letting him down again and nothing's going his way. So I think he's in a state of fragility."
