The new series of Doctor Who will feature a cameo from Matt Smith beyond the grave.
The actor - who played the Eleventh Doctor - is set to receive one last hurrah in the new series of the BBC One sci-fi drama, despite regenerating in last year's Christmas special.
Viewers will hear Matt's incarnation of the Doctor make a call to his former companion Clara Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman), who is still heartbroken by his regeneration and isn't overly welcoming of the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Doctor Who's sidekick Clara is struggling to accept that Capaldi is still her Doctor when she receives a phone call from Matt, which he made prior to his regeneration.
"It sounds confusing but he is ringing the future from the past and wants to assure Clara this new man is still Doctor Who."
Peter, 55, and Jenna, 27, are currently filming the new series of 'Doctor Who', which will screen on BBC One in the autumn.
Producer Steven Moffat recently praised Peter's portrayal of the Doctor.
He said: "He's one of the best actors in the world. He's an extraordinary actor. I just thought, 'Why has nobody ever asked him if he'd do it?' And he is doing it, and wow."
