A Reddit post featuring a screenshot of the Netflix app page for The Punisher has a release date of 2017 and a short synopsis, which reads: "After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he'll become known as The Punisher."
Of course, anything posted to Reddit should never always be taken immediately as the gospel truth. For one, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos has already said there was no goal for the company to put out more than one or two of the series on Netflix a year. With Iron Fist and The Defenders expected for 2017, it's hard to see where Punisher would slot in.
What we do know is that Jessica Jones is going into production immediately after production is complete on The Defenders, so the second season of that show is likely to come in early 2018. A third season of Daredevil is also in the works.
Frank Castle was first introduced to the Defenders universe on Netflix during the second season of Daredevil, and it was revealed shortly after that show's release that the character would be getting his own show in the mantle of The Punisher.
Meanwhile, new Marvel series Luke Cage comes to Netflix on September 30, with all episodes of the first season instantly available. Seasons 1-2 of Daredevil and season 1 of Jessica Jones are available on the streaming service now.
