No one can deny that Marvel are knocking it out of the park this year (2021) with the TV shows they’ve put out so far, as well as with the ones yet to come. One of the most anticipated series for fans, is Marvel Studios and Disney+ animated show, What If...
The popular streaming service, Disney+, has brought us some outstanding Marvel shows so far, with WandaVision being the first and adored by fans, followed by The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and currently streaming is Loki, which is shaping up to be incredible with only one episode left to go.
However, the shows that we are yet to see such as Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms Marvel and, of course, What If, are piquing the interest of fans. The trailer for this new series has put many in a state of awe, as the stunning animation shows us a multitude of scenarios that could have happened, if events played out a little differently.
We already know some of the confirmed episodes for the series, such as what would have happened if Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) took the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), what if Yondu (Michael Rooker) kidnapped T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) instead of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), and an apocalyptic world where Bucky (Sebastian Stan) faces an army of undead Avengers; but what else do we know now the trailer has dropped?
The first thing we are shown is an animated version of the scene in which Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is attacked after his weapons presentation; the bachelor exits the military truck just as a bomb lands beside him.
In the 2008 film the bomb explodes, leading Stark to become Iron Man; however, Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) picks up the projectile and hurls it into the air, away from Stark.
Could this be a timeline where Killmonger decides to do good rather than bad, or maybe his father wasn’t murdered. But what will this world do without Iron Man?
We also see a vast array of other characters such as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and the Guardians of the Galaxy, along with a myriad of other possible ‘what if’ events.
The series is set to be fantastic, with characters interacting that have never crossed paths in the main series of film, such as Captain Carter and Doctor Strange. The imagery is beautiful, and shows that Marvel really can do everything, as their first animated series is highly-anticipated in the eyes of fans.
What If…, directed by Bryan Andrews with A.C. Bradley as head writer, features signature MCU action with very interesting twists and turns. The animated series launches on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021.
