Millions experienced severe disruption after record-breaking winds, brought on by the storm, hit the UK earlier in February. The Met Office issued a Red Weather Warning as the storm-battered most parts of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland causing death, injury, and huge structural damage thanks to 122mph winds.

Martin was out filming for the ITV drama in the tiny Cornish fishing village of Port Issac, and explained that the cast had to evacuate the set because of the extreme weather.

Speaking to The Sun’s TV Biz column, Martin said: “We had to take the cast out of their trailers because there was a genuine chance they could have been blown away.

“There were slates being blown off roofs, the wind speed was incredible. It was pretty scary.”

Actress Caroline Catz - who plays Martin’s onscreen wife Louisa - recalled the traumatic event and revealed how the cast and crew sought shelter in a barn of a nearby farm.

In the joint interview, she told The Sun newspaper' TVBiz column: "We had no choice but to take refuge. The storm was one of the most dramatic things I have ever seen.”

The 60-year-old actor will be reprising his role once more as GP Martin Ellingham for ‘Doc Martin’, which is back with its tenth and final series on Wednesday (07.09.22) at 9pm on ITV.

Most recently, Clunes hit out at his fans in wake of the long-running drama being cancelled saying they should “mind” their own “business” as they are not “part of the decision-making process”.

He told Radio Times: "We didn’t make [fans] part of any decision-making process at any other point, so mind your own business.

"One of my wife’s riding teachers says never let the horse make the decision, horses make terrible decisions. So maybe never let a viewer make a decision."
