Former 'Love Island' star Marcel Somerville says the contestants have to prove that they are free of sexually transmitted diseases before heading into the villa.
The 31-year-old hunk took part in the ITV2 dating show back in 2017 and found romance with Gabby Allen in the villa, however, their relationship didn't last after the programme and they split in April 2018.
Marcel has now lifted the lid on some of the safety precautions the 'Love Island' team take on the series, revealing that every Islander must pass STI tests before the series begins and are given condoms in case they do have sex.
Speaking to the Mirror Online about the prospect of hanky panky on the show, he spilled: "There'll always be members of the cast who are more outgoing than others, and there'll be people who don't mind doing it.
"It's definitely down to the cast members, if you do want to do it then by all means do it. The show provides the necessary protection, so just be safe.
"The show does do strict testing beforehand just to make sure that everyone going on there is clean. They do quite a few tests to make sure you're clean and safe."
Marcel - who now has a young son Roman with his fiancée Rebecca Vieira - insists he did not have sex during his time on the show and he thinks that the producers have toned that element in recent series because they want to attract a younger audience and if the antics are too X-rated then the parents of teenagers might insist that the TV is turned off.
He said: "I didn't do it on the show. The year before my series there were people doing it constantly and as things progressed I think it's changed and it's not that sexually driven any more.
"They've made it more of a show that's accessible for a younger audience because I think there was a lot of younger people watching it and they didn't want to make it that kind of show."
"They've toned down that element of it because there were a lot of things happening in series one and two and when it got to our year and the show blew up they toned down on all the smoking, the sex, the drinking."
'Love Island' Love returns to ITV2 at 9pm on Monday, June 28.
