Lucy Fallon has teased a "problematic" future ahead for her 'Coronation Street' character.
The 20-year-old actress - who stars as Bethany Platt in the ITV soap - has hinted Bethany could go down a dark path after she realises her crush Gary Windass (Mikey North) actually likes her mother Sarah-Louise Platt (Tina O'Brien).
Asked how she thinks Bethany would feel if Gary and Sarah started dating, she said: "I think that would be quite problematic. I think she would go off the rails if that happened ... With everything that has happened, from Callum to the bullying, her confidence has really been chipped away and it is going to be chipped away even more.
"She has matured in some ways but she is so vulnerable and lonely now. She feels like she can't speak to anyone about the Gary situation because she doesn't have any friends on the street and she can't speak to her family because she would be too embarrassed. She's got no one."
Things start to go wrong for Bethany when she mistakes a compliment from Gary as an indication he likes her. Spurred on by his apparent interest, Bethany sets up a candlelit dinner for two. Whilst she pops out to get a few last minute things, Sarah arrives back at Nick's flat and Gary soon shows up on the doorstep.
When Bethany returns, she spots Gary and Sarah kissing on the balcony and realises her mistake.
Lucy added to Soaplife: "She sees Gary and Sarah on the balcony having a smooch. She feels foolish and embarrassed. She doesn't feel angry towards Sarah because she knows it's not Sarah's fault - she just feels really humiliated.
"I think Bethany still has feelings for Gary but she is trying to push them to the side. But the feelings are still there and that may cause problems in the future."
