'Love Island' products have made a whopping £20 million in sales.
The hit ITV2 dating series often features product placement of its own merchandise throughout the show, including water bottles and suitcases engraved with contestants names.
Viewers have been able to purchase the branded products since 2017 thanks to the popularity of the show.
The latest series saw profits reach a new milestone as branded goods raked in £20 million in sales.
A TV insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It just shows the extraordinary popularity of the show over the years. The demand is incredible every year …so it’s little surprise £20 million has been hit.”
Currently, the most popular product on the market is the pink and white water bottle, which RRPs at £20.
The original design was first introduced during season two of the series in 2016 as a practical measure to make them identifiable for each contestant.
The bottles proved so popular that shoppers flocked online to buy their own, and fans have also purchased tote bags, wash bags, suitcases, phone cases and robes, which all feature the iconic neon personalisation scribble.
William van Rest, Director of Gaming, Live and Merchandise at ITV, said: “The Official 'Love Island' water bottle has been a smash hit with viewers, and is now often spotted at festivals, in offices, in schools, around campuses, on zoom calls, at gyms and at airports. “They’re the must-have hydration accessory.”
The huge success of the show has also had a positive impact for small business owners such Sierra Ndagire.
The 25-year-old fashion designer and entrepreneur, who deigned Maya Jama’s scarlet red crochet co-ord, said the exposure has made a “big difference” for small black businesses like hers as sales have risen by 300 per cent, whilst clicks have shot up by 1000 per cent.
