Marcel Somerville thinks 'Love Island' has become too sanitised.
The 36-year-old rapper - who starred on the show in 2017 - believes 'Love Island' has become more boring as its popularity has increased.
He explained: "You've gotta think of it like this, when you break it down the show has gone from being a show that was more for like late teens early adults to a lot of people watching the show.
"That's why on my season there was so much smoking and everything was going on - all of that has been cut from the show for the simple reason that they want it to spread to a wider audience.
"So, there are kids who are in school - like 13/14 - watching the show and they don't want to encourage smoking or let them see explicit nudity so they're tailoring it."
Marcel believes the show used to be much more "raunchy".
The former Blazin' Squad star also thinks the programme has been edited in a very calculated way over recent years.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "By all means, there are naked cast members on this season but you just aren't seeing it because they don't need to edit it in.
"Back in my day, it used to be more raunchy. I remember watching a season before my season and that season went off. There were people having sex in cupboards and stuff.
"It's definitely changed because you don't see the X-rated stuff. I think my era was ... I'm not even just saying this but my season was probably the last season of that kind of 'Love Island'."
Marcel also believes the contestants now approach the show like it's a business opportunity.
He said: "The season afterwards it kind of became a lot more PG ... I think the only person who had a big following before the show was Jess Shears.
"Now, I think everyone going on the show, they all have something they're going on the show to get because they obviously see how much the show propels you."
'Love Island' airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
