Louis Smith has been named the winner of ‘The Masked Dancer’.
The 32-year-old retired artistic gymnast and Olympic bronze medallist wowed audiences with his dance routines during the ITV reality competition this week, and his performances mean he has been crowned the winner of the first-ever series after the final episode aired on Saturday (05.06.21).
Louis had been performing in the Carwash costume, and beat fellow finalists Zip, Squirrel, and Scarecrow to be named the overall winner.
Zip was unmasked as Take That star Howard Donald, while Squirrel’s true identity was actress and singer Bonnie Langford, and ‘EastEnders’ actress Tamzin Outhwaite was behind the Scarecrow disguise.
Speaking after his win in a video for the show’s YouTube Channel, Louis said: “I’ve won, it’s absolutely crazy. Absolutely crazy, I mean, I set out to have fun and enjoy myself and I did that. To win is the icing on the cake.”
Before the gymnast was unmasked, Tamzin gave guest judge Holly Willoughby a shock when she took off her Squirrel mask, as the actress is the cousin of Holly’s husband, Dan Baldwin.
Asked how she had found being on the show, Tamzin admitted: "Ludicrous, ridiculous and hilarious all at once. I used to dance and I haven't for a really long time."
And elsewhere in the show, singer Howard revealed it had been a nightmare trying to keep his identity a secret from his children.
He said: "[It was] super hard, my daughters don't even know, one's 21 and one's 16 and they're like 'what are you doing in London?'
"I'm so made up that I made it to the final, I got a bronze medal."
Louis’ win comes as stars including Jordan Banjo, Louise Redknapp, Dita Von Teese, Eddie the Eagle, Christopher Dean, Zoe Ball, Craig Revel Horwood, and Kelly Brook were unmasked in previous episodes this week.
