The 73-year-old businessman headed Down Under during the winter and it is thought he is keen for the BBC show to head to Australia because "life is almost back to normal" in the country, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A TV source said: "Lord Sugar has loved filming in Oz and has told BBC bosses that for next year’s UK series he’d like to take it out there.

"While London is like a ghost town, there’s a real buzz in Australia and New Zealand, where life is almost back to normal amid the pandemic."

Although the UK is set to roll-out a coronavirus vaccine, Lord Sugar accepts that life in London won't return to normal for many months.

The insider told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "There would be plenty that the teams of hopeful entrepreneurs could do, whereas filming in London is likely to still be tricky next year, especially as the restrictions change all the time."

Lord Sugar previously insisted he wasn't fearful of the virus because he was following the advice of health experts.

The outspoken businessman - who has starred on 'The Apprentice' since 2005 - also admitted to sympathising with the government amid the pandemic.

He said: "If you stick to those rules, which is what my wife and I have done and my family has done, you’ll be OK.

"It’s the irresponsible people out there who are not paying attention to the rules. And the rules are good rules, they’re not stupid rules.

"They’re put in place in order to help save people’s lives. I sympathise with the government."
