Kaye Adams had the "most traumatic 48 hours" after losing her hearing in one ear.
The 61-year-old journalist is a long-serving anchor on the ITV1 chat show 'Loose Women' and revealed that just before going on air for Friday (19.01.24), her right ear suddenly stopped working and while she managed to get through the episode, she spent the weekend trying to figure out what had happened.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: "I have had the most traumatic 48 hours. Here's a little Sunday story for you.
"On Friday, when I was doing 'Loose Women', minutes before we went on air, my right ear just went dead. I put my earpiece in and there was no sound. I couldn't hear a thing. I was absolutely terrified. I thought 'Oh my God, what has gone wrong?' So anyway, I kind of got through the programme, got home couldn't hear anything. I'm looking up online..what could it be? And it said to go to A+E. So, the next day I go to A+E in Glasgow. They were amazing, absolutely amazing. Anita, the nurse, thank you. We discovered we had the same birthday, except she's a year younger than me. But my God, she was fantastic."
The former 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestant - who appeared on the very first episode of 'Loose Women' in 1999 and hosted regularly until 2006 before returning in 2013 - then went to get an audiogram where despite initially worrying she had some sort of tumour, the issue turned out to be a case of impacted earwax.
She said: "Then I had to go to get an audiogram and I went to Boots in Glasgow. Paula, thank you, you were amazing, absolutely incredible, thank you.
"And she did an examination. I'm embarrassed to say this because my head was going to some terrible, terrible tumour. I'm very melodramatic and Paula pulls out the biggest bit of wax you have ever seen!"
