Leonie Elliot has quit ‘Call the Midwife’.
The 34-year-old actress has played Lucille Robinson on the BBC period drama for six years - but Leonie has now quit the show, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.
Lucille has not been seen on screen since the second episode of the current series, when she returned to Jamaica after suffering a depressive episode.
The midwife suffered a miscarriage amid the rise of racial violence inspired by the ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech by Enoch Powell, a Conservative MP.
Leonie seemingly hinted at her exit from the show after shooting her final scene.
The actress said on social media: "This season was incredibly difficult to film. Thank you for all your kind words... Look after yourselves and each other."
'Call the Midwife' has been renewed all the way until 2026, which will take the story up to 1971 and next series will feature fan favourites like Trixie, Matthew, Cyril and Sister Monica Joan, who is played by Judy Parfitt.
Olly Rix, who plays Matthew, has already insisted that he and his on-screen wife won't be fleeing Poplar.
He said: "Their focus is on changing things around them. It doesn’t seem to be remotely in their characters to just hang that all up now and enjoy the quiet life. That’s not who they are."
Helen George, who plays Trixie, doesn't see them moving away, either.
She said: "They’ve got so much work to do there and they’re both very driven, so I can’t see them moving away."
