The BBC One sitcom - which first aired in 2006 and sees the comedian starring alongside Sally Bretton, Hugh Dennis and Abigail Cruttenden - will be back in January for its 11th run, with another season coming before the end of 2021.

Appearing on 'The Graham Norton Show' this week, Lee said: “We know we are doing 12 and 13 which will take us to exactly 100 episodes.

"It is lovely knowing that we have that for the next couple of years.”

Sadly, the 11th series will be the final one to feature the late Bobby Ball, who appeared on the show from 2009 as Lee's on-screen dad Frank.

Lee, 52, revealed that when the star died in October, it came shortly after the team wrapped up filming their New Year's Eve episode.

He added: “Maybe only a month after filming our NYE show he passed away and it really is hard to believe he has gone.

"He’s been part of my life since I was a kid and I was genuinely star struck when I worked with him. It is hard for anyone under 30 to realise just how big Cannon and Ball were."

The special will see Lee's alter ego - with whom he shares a name - and Lucy host New Year’s Eve for both sides of the family, including Frank and Lucy’s parents Geoffrey (Geoffrey Whitehead) and Wendy (Deborah Grant).

Meanwhile, friends Toby (Dennis) and his uptight wife Anna (Cruttenden) are set to join in the celebrations.

The BBC has teased: “When parlour games are suspended in favour of a no-holds-barred round of New Year’s Resolutions, the fireworks might be in the house when friendly suggestions on how to improve individual behaviour are received with not a lot of festive spirit.

“Will it be a Happy New Year for Lee and Lucy in suburbia?”
