Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen only wears leather trousers because they’re easy to wipe paint off.

The 'Changing Rooms' star is to squeeze himself into his trademark trousers once again for the show’s reboot, but insists the only reason he favours them is because of how practical they are when painting, as if he wears “jeans or cords” they get “ruined” by the splatters.

In an interview with the new issue of Radio Times magazine, he said: “To be 57, squeezing into leather trousers and painting walls felt a bad idea.

"I wear leather for a simple reason — if I kneel in paint, I can scrape it off. Jeans or cords, those are ruined.”

The hugely popular BBC show originally ran from 1996 to 2004 and was presented by Carol Smillie with designers such as Laurence - who took on presenting duties for it's final series - Anna Ryder Richardson and Linda Barker revamping people’s homes.

In October 2020, Channel 4 announced that it was reviving the show, with Laurence returning as a presenter.

Davina McCall was originally due to be co-host but due to other work commitments she pulled out with 'Naked Attraction' host Anna Richardson taking her place.

Laurence is thrilled that 'Changing Rooms' is back as it has allowed him to "come back from beyond the grave" and revive his TV career.

He joked: "Fundamentally, it’s an enormous opportunity to come back from beyond the grave.

“I have an entirely new leather wardrobe, which has been made by my tailor in the Cotswolds.

"He is forever doing Lord Somebody-or-other’s tweeds and then I go in and say, ‘Darling, I want leather and rock ’n’ roll. I want to look like a middle-aged Adam Ant.'"
