Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen would've had a "diva moment" if bosses tried to tone down 'Changing Rooms'.

The style consultant - who is fronting the upcoming Channel 4 reboot of the overhauled show alongside new host Anna Richardson - insisted he wouldn't have taken kindly to producers trying to interfere.

He told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "If I’d done a design for a room and they’d said, ‘I think they’ll be upset, do you mind if we don’t do that?’ — that’s when I would’ve had my diva moment."

During the 1990s, Laurence was praised for his daring and edgy designs, but some of his creations didn't sit too well with the people he was tasked with helping.

In 1998, one woman sobbed after her extension was turned into a plum-coloured Queen Anne dining room, and another couple insisted he'd made their living room look like a "w****'s palace".

However, Laurence wants the show to retain that side and insisted TV personalities should be able to give "tough love".

He added: "You can over-woke things. You will end up with no television whatsoever. But the big distinction is very straightforward.

“You show respect to people and you do that through how you say things and how polite you are.

"But you continue to say what you said and that’s important."

Laurence explained that he wants people of his generation to listen to his message and realise that no one is taking away their "freedom of speech" as long as they frame things in the right way.

He said: "It’s a message I want to send out specifically to my generation, who are furious about freedom of speech.

"Nobody’s curtailing your freedom of speech. It’s the way you express your opinion."
